  • Description
    We help organisations understand 'who' their brand is, their voice and how to use it. This is achieved through a three-stage process. The first step is research, to help us understand current perceptions of the organisation, as well as any existing brand properties (such as values, mission etc.). This process begins either with a workshop or emailed questionnaire to key stakeholders. We analyse responses to find commonalities and these are blended with existing brand properties to create a unique brand personality. Our initial response to the client is the analysis of the results with an explanation of how they have led us to a specific brand personality. Only once this personality is signed off do we move on to the next step. The second step involves the writing of a one-paragraph voice sample, with an explanation of how it reflects the agreed personality. Only when the voice sample is signed off by the client do we move on. Following the agreement of personality and voice, we move onto the third and final step, the creation of a set of comprehensive, easy-to-follow guidelines. These give clear direction on who the brand is and how to use the voice, with a range of examples across different channels, showing how the use of the voice changes with each. Included in these guidelines is an exhaustive usage guide, with practical advice on: the type of sentences to use, grammar style, use of abbreviations, apostrophes, bullet lists etc. These guidelines, an essential document for any brand-led organisation, function in the same way as visual identity guidelines, to ensure a consistent way of talking/writing, across the organisation. In a world where many customers’ first experience of a brand will be through the written word, whether that's a homepage, blog, social ad or a video (someone has to write that script!), consistency in your brand voice is as essential as your brand's colour palette.

Project made for Monetise Create in the Banking & Financials industry for a B2C audience in 2014.Santander (with app agency Monetise Create) wanted to develop a new monile banking app that made it easy to understand the state of your finances at a glance, with simple, colourful graphs and a focus on how and where money was spent. To accompany this new approach they needed a less formal tone of voice and language. We worked on-site, with Santander staff, and with the UX and Visual Design team at the agency.
