conversation come from <em>controversy<\/em>.\u00a0 Some companies are ready to push some buttons that can make some people feel very uncomfortable.<\/p>\n<p>This strategy is <strong>very risky<\/strong> and it is crucial that your team is <strong>fully aware<\/strong> of the direction and stand your company is taking.\u00a0 You must also be <strong>prepared for the consequences<\/strong> after the launch of the campaign.\u00a0 As much as it can do wonders for your brand, it can also end it once and for all.<\/p>\n<p>Nike decided to take this leap of faith when it decided to use Colin Kaepernick for its 30th \u201cJust Do It\u201d campaign in 2018.\u00a0 The American Football athlete had recently taken the knee during the national anthem before a game.\u00a0 Kaepernick\u2019s \u201ccontroversial\u201d move was the core of Nike\u2019s \u201ccontroversial\u201d advertisement which in the end led to an <em>all-time high sales for the brand\u2026<\/em><\/p>\n<p>Due to the incredible risks your business can take when seeking the controversial route, it may be best to <strong>think about working with an outside it.<\/p>\n<p>An example of this would be a <strong>trailer for a much-anticipated film<\/strong>.\u00a0 The danger with these sorts of marketing strategies though is that they <strong>need to maintain that excitement<\/strong> (although if they don\u2019t, there will still be much talk about how much of a letdown it was).\u00a0 They build a viewer\u2019s adrenaline and leave them wanting about something<\/strong>.<\/p>\n<p>Take this Mr. Clean advertisement in Italy for example.\u00a0 Although many of us know Mr. Clean, the name of the brand does not appear.\u00a0 However, the image is quite striking and it forces you to stop and stare.<\/p>\n<p>If you are walking across this zebra crossing with someone, you will most likely slap their arm and say <em>\u201chey, look!\u201d<\/em>.\u00a0 Every time you\u2019ll walk or drive by, <strong>you\u2019ll mention<\/strong> the perfect white line at that pedestrian crossing.\u00a0 If you don\u2019t know the brand, surely someone you <strong>mention the advert<\/strong> to at some point will tell you.<\/p>\n<p>You may have found yourself having conversations about one of these kinds of advertisements with people of your entourage at some point.\u00a0 Many times these strategies are combined with <em>guerrilla marketing<\/em> and often contribute quite well to the buzz.<\/p>\n<h2>Downsides of buzz marketing<\/h2>\n<p>If a buzz marketing campaign goes well, it <em>can be life-changing for a brand<\/em>.\u00a0 However, if it goes badly, it can be <em>career-ending<\/em>.\u00a0 Be very cautious when creating these types of campaigns.<\/p>\n<p>There is a saying that goes: \u201cbad press is better than no press\u201d but <strong>this is not the best approach<\/strong> for a long-lasting successful career.\u00a0 <strong>Study your message and approach<\/strong>, and make sure you can back up what you are selling to your audience.<\/p>\n<h2>D-I-Y<\/h2>\n<p>Before starting your own buzz marketing strategy, note that this is a difficult form of marketing.\u00a0 It is unusual that a business gets it right the first time around.\u00a0 Nevertheless, here are <strong>four important steps<\/strong> to reach your success:<\/p>\n<h3>Decide on your strategy<\/h3>\n<p>In order for your content to be impactful, you need a <em>clear, defined tone<\/em> you wish to achieve.\u00a0 Choose one of the previously mentioned buzz marketing strategies for your marketing campaign (or make up your own), and brainstorm the backlashes it may engender, if any, that may arise after its launch.<\/p>\n<h3>Reach out &#8211; get people talking<\/h3>\n<p>Your team in a buzz marketing campaign extends to <strong>anyone with a voice loud enough to pass on your message<\/strong>\u2026so anyone.\u00a0 Some individuals have a more powerful voice than others and you should aim to target them first.<\/p>\n<p>Engage in <em>influencer marketing<\/em>, get in touch with as many social media influencers to market your brand for you. <a href=\"https:\/\/www.sortlist.co.uk\/blog\/micro-influencer\/\">Micro-influencers<\/a> are also good if you wish to reach out to more niche
