We\u2019re seeing an upward trend of consumers doing online shopping compared to visiting brick-and-mortar locations, and it\u2019s becoming more challenging to get customers away from online shopping and into physical stores.&nbsp;<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Given how much the consumers\u2019 shopping behaviors have changed, it\u2019s a no-brainer that brands in the retail sector spend huge amounts of money <strong>designing unique and memorable retail experiences<\/strong>. <\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>The shopping experience is as important to humanity as what we buy, and retail trends are getting more exciting &#8211; and more challenging for brick-and-mortar stores. <\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Customers now expect more than products on the shelf, and immersive experiences that increase customer engagement are essential, rather than an option. <strong><em>Now that people are buying more online, what do today&#8217;s retailers need to do to up their game in offline shopping?&nbsp;<\/em><\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n<h2 class=\"wp-block-heading\">Creating the Brand Experience Creates Customer Loyalty<\/h2>\n\n\n\n<p>In a nutshell, retailers need to get serious and very creative about how to attract and engage customers in-store. The<strong> future of retail<\/strong> is an exciting one, but only if retailers create a space that is about more than shopping. Retail locations need to be about the customers resonating and experiencing the brand.&nbsp;<\/p>\n\n\n\n<blockquote class=\"wp-block-quote is-layout-flow wp-block-quote-is-layout-flow\">\n<p><em>It&#8217;s not just a retail space, it&#8217;s a retail experience.<\/em><\/p>\n<\/blockquote>\n\n\n\n<h3 class=\"wp-block-heading\">Your Store is Your Brand.<\/h3>\n\n\n\n<p>For years, many retailers have been elevating their spaces from simple brick-and-mortar stores where people buy goods to places, they want to spend time. <\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Take Gucci\u2019s flagship store in Italy, for example. It\u2019s more than a store. This way, retailers can stand out among the competition and be one step closer to being top of mind. And there are so many ways to be creative beyond physical aesthetics. <\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Retailers are embracing new and exciting uses of technology to engage customers in-store, from point-of-purchase hardware to interactive games or videos. &nbsp;<\/p>\n\n\n\n<h2 class=\"wp-block-heading\">The Future of Retail is not Found in Physical Stores \u2013 It&#8217;s in the In-Person Experiences<\/h2>\n\n\n\n<p>Simply put, <strong>the future of retail is about creating a full-fledged brand experience<\/strong>, taking customers out of your store and into the world of your brand. Retailers need to create something memorable, that will live on long after consumers have left the physical store.&nbsp;<\/p>\n\n\n\n<h3 class=\"wp-block-heading\">Top Three Retail Trends Redefining the In-store Experience<\/h3>\n\n\n\n<p>Here are three retail trends that elevate physical retail spaces and bring consumers to the store.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<h4 class=\"wp-block-heading\">Engage Six Senses<\/h4>\n\n\n\n<p>That\u2019s right \u2013 we said six senses. The future of retail certainly means engaging customers\u2019 sight, touch, sound, smell, and taste. <strong>The sixth sense is what we call the \u201csocial sense\u201d.&nbsp;<\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Humans are social creatures. Not only do we want to see, feel, hear, smell, and taste new and exciting things, we want to share these experiences with others. <\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>This means that when people shop, they are also <strong>looking for opportunities to tell their friends about a great store <\/strong>or better yet, to <strong>take pictures for social media<\/strong>.&nbsp;<\/p>\n\n\n\n<h5 class=\"wp-block-heading\">The feeling of a forest &#8211; Arc\u2019teryx<\/h5>\n\n\n\n<p>When Arc\u2019teryx asked us to help them make some noise for their new collection in China, we designed a unique experience for Arc\u2019teryx that catered to the sense of the social through its <a href=\"https:\/\/www.sortlist.co.uk\/blog\/virtual-pop-up-shop\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\">retail pop-up<\/a> for local customers. <\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>The retail pop-up imitated the serenity of a peaceful forest, enhanced through an experience that stimulated five of the six senses. Retailers can <strong>ask their consumers to take part <\/strong>as well, by providing them with opportunities to engage with the brand and create memories together.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<h5 class=\"wp-block-heading\">Gameifying Memories to create a personal experience &#8211; Budweiser<\/h5>\n\n\n\n<p><a href=\"https:\/\/www.theorangeblowfish.com\/portfolio-item\/budweiser-drop-158\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\">Budweiser <\/a>saw an opportunity to co-create memories with its target market by inviting consumers to play a fully branded video game in nightclubs across China. <\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Usually, if you are playing a video game you aren\u2019t engaged in what\u2019s going on around you. But not this one! Players were able to play the game, while still being present in the club because it reacted to the music being played by the DJ. <\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Yes, the visuals in the game \u201cmoved\u201d to the music. Not only that, the game was fully branded Budweiser, with the \u201ccar\u201d shaped like the company\u2019s logo. Plus, you could only play at this event, creating a completely unique event. But ultimately, the <strong>best tech is the tech that brings people together and creates \u201clife\u201d<\/strong> in a way that people feel like the tech isn\u2019t there at all. Technology can boost incredible moments, but the magic comes when people don\u2019t even realize it\u2019s there.&nbsp;<\/p>\n\n\n\n<h5 class=\"wp-block-heading\">Creating a seamless sales experience &#8211; The Yuesai Retail Store<\/h5>\n\n\n\n<p>When <a href=\"https:\/\/www.theorangeblowfish.com\/portfolio-item\/redesigning-yuesai-retail-experience\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\">YUESAI<\/a> asked The Orangeblowfish to help them reinvigorate their store in Shanghai, we knew tech would be key, but we also knew our most important priority was the consumer experience. <\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>We designed a space where technology was used to engage the customer and support them as they explored the products.
