I’m Mike, a strategic brand designer helping businesses in premium products and complex industries turn difficult ideas into clear, impactful design. Most clients don’t come to me because they need a logo. They come because something isn't working. A founder-led consultancy is losing pitches to larger firms despite superior expertise. A craft whisky maker can’t make it into new stores because their product lacks shelf appeal. An energy firm is losing tenders because their engineering complexity gets lost in poor document design. Those aren't design problems—they are clarity problems. My job is to resolve them. My work spans brand identity, packaging, and the full range of visual touchpoints. I’ve worked with independent bottlers, energy transition consultancies, sustainable product brands and a range of small businesses across Scotland. The common thread is always the same: design should make your business clearer, more credible, and easier to choose. My approach is collaborative and considered. I guide clients through decisions without adding complexity, keep the process straightforward, and deliver work that’s built to last. Where sustainability adds genuine value in materials or messaging, I embed it. Where it doesn’t, I don’t force it.
